Why I Opted For A Public Diary

I feel like this is an important bit of info to explain before I dump half my life. It’s not quite a complete public diary. It’s part of what I’d put in one. The part I don’t mind screaming out into the void, or that I’d talk about in an informal setting with people who know me. It’s not like I think there won’t be any strangers reading this. But I do think that posting some stuff online is fine™ within reason. I don’t plan to make this a traumadump, nor do I plan to make this entirely about pain and sadness and the gravity of life, the universe, and everything. I merely intend this to be a way for me to get things out of my system. That said, this would also be the outlet for the really happy news like getting a new job and the coworkers I get along with.

The initial writing

The first thing I plan to put up here is heavy. But that’s also what helped me figure out I need to get it out of my system somehow. And that doing it in my own little corner of the internet is exactly the space I want it to be in. The writing in question is entirely about why I’m looking for another job. And how I need to do that now, to prevent a future where I look back on my current job with nothing but bitterness and resentment. I love this company, I love their values, and I love how we’re making a Very Dutch Product right here in The Netherlands. Most of our competitors don’t do that anymore! And the majority that do are just doing the assembly of finished and configured parts here. Not us, we do it here.

Other writings

I do plan to also write about the fun stuff. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. For example, in my free time I do ballroom and latin dancing. And I read, and game. And I cycle a lot. And I’m also doing a kitchen and bathroom remodel at home. And tons of other things too. And I plan to dedicate some text to some of those things as well. Because that, too, keeps me occupied and has my brain going in circles from time to time.

And when I do write about those other topics, I don’t care who reads along and what people might think of that. The stuff I’m sharing here is stuff I’d talk about over a couple beers. Or things that I’d mention when chatting with people in my usual Discord servers and real life hangouts. They’re things that happen to me, or that I make happen. A little slice of life, but with code and heavy metal instead of poppy melodies and tea with cake. That said, I’m seeing coldrain live this Sunday. I love their music, and I’m looking forward to it a lot. It’s been a huge motivator all week long!

Wasn’t this a programming blog?

I’m pretty sure that the about page very explicitly states things like posting about other stuff from time to time, and that I have no idea what to expect that I’ll write about. If you’re only here for the coding stuff, or the AI rants when some company decides my preferences don’t align with their metrics then please do note that I’m doing two things to let you easily ignore the personal stuff that you might not be interested in.

  1. I’m containing diary posts to the Dear Diary category;
  2. Tags and categories are on top of the posts, to help you filter.

Besides that, for the forseeable future this blog is being built with Jekyll, with pretty fine-grained feed options. If you really want to avoid personal posting, follow the feeds you’re interested in and ignore the global one. If you do like reading these, or if you want to voice your opinions on what I say and post here, then please do message me on Discord or send me an email.
